What happens

Deep inside the Waitomo Caves, thousands of glowworms make the ceiling sparkle like a starry sky. A little boat floats on the dark river, a ruru owl blinks from a rock, and kiwi birds poke about with their long beaks.

Fun facts

  • Glowworms make light to catch tiny flying bugs!
  • Kiwi are the only birds with nostrils at the end of their beaks!
  • The ruru, or morepork, is an owl named after its call: 'more-pork!'
