What happens

Season 11 (Birds of the World) heads to Guatemala's misty cloud forest, where green tail feathers longer than a ruler float down from a branch like ribbons: the resplendent quetzal. An emerald toucanet peeks out, orchids bloom on mossy branches, and the kids have to juggle without touching the quetzal's tail.

Fun facts

  • The quetzal is Guatemala's national bird, and its money is called the quetzal too!
  • Quetzal tail feathers can be longer than a ruler.
  • Cloud forests are so high up they sit inside the clouds.
